July 06. 2003 - And again twice but short today | Comments/reports/log-sheets/audios to DK5YA

Thanks to the contest - activity was pretty high and again we had 2 openings on 144 that we usually would have missed I guess. MUF was very high from the very early morning almost at the same place like yesterday, above Romania. So there was another opening from east to west, UA6 and UT5 to I, S5, 9A and YU while SV8 and SV1 was into UA3 and UT5. This one started at app. 07.00 UT and lasted until 07.50 UT. Later this cloud was moving northwest und MUF was rising again when at 08.32 UT first sigs on 144 were heard in DL and PA0. This opening lasted until app. 10:55 UT with LZ, YO, HA and YU into DL, PA0, ON, G, GW and EI plus LY with IS0 and I. Later there were very spotty ones from HA into G again, but more MS than Es.
Involved DXCC: OZ, DL, PA0, ON, G, GW, EI, LY, UA3, UA6, UT, YU, T9, LZ, YO, S5, 9A, I, IS0, HA, SV

Patchy opening here, I take it that UR7C and UR7D were maybe at the same stn, missed loc of 7c due to a g calling over him twice...

These last two stations seemed to be the same QTH
All of this happened during VHFNFD. Strangely, despite the contest, there was much less QRM than usual. Most contest stations were well away from 144.3. Only our resident LID (SE England) caused deliberate interference. I wonder whether some of the contest stations were even aware of the condx......
Nothing new but it was an experience to hear and work YO's at amazing signal strengths without QRM in the major contest of the year!!!

Tuning the band and heard YO3FFF/P KN24ND at 0844z.
Worked YO2KBK/P KN06UG 59 59 at 0847z, sqr not new for me. Heard YO4FRJ/P KN34AW at 0852Z then cloud headed off to west! Later at 0925z heard someone giving locator as KN03UK, but faded and no call, may have been MS burst.
Lot of stations unaware of Es due to contest mode operating.

After seeing YO's popping in and out then hearing G7RAU wrk UR7D. I thought all was lost, then suddenly UR7D appeared only got my report before QSB set in.
